On September 1, 2009, Governor Schwarzenegger appointed Rick Sueyoshi to the Sacramento County Superior Court. Prior to his appointment, Rick was a partner at Downey Brand LLP, the largest private law firm in the greater Sacramento region. Mr. Sueyoshi's practice emphasized complex business and commercial litigation. Prior to joining Downey Brand, Mr. Sueyoshi served as a judicial extern for Chief Judge Glen E. Clark for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Utah and as a judicial intern for Justice Richard C. Howe of the Supreme Court of Utah.
Mr. Sueyoshi has served as the Vice President of Membership for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and as the NAPABA regional governor for the Sacramento and Las Vegas affiliates. He served as President of the Asian/Pacific Bar Association of Sacramento in 2002. Mr. Sueyoshi has also served on the Judiciary Committee of the Sacramento County Bar Association in its review of candidates seeking appointment to the Superior Court of California for Sacramento County, the Sacramento County Bar Association's Nominations Committee, and as a Board Member for the Sacramento Asian/Pacific Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Foundation. He has also previously served as Board Member of the Sacramento Asian/Pacific Chamber of Commerce and as Board Member of the Sacramento Barristers Club. Mr. Sueyoshi has served on the selection committee and as a panelist for the Sacramento County Diversity Fellowship Program, which is designed to promote diversity in Sacramento law firms. He has also helped to organize the Unity Bar Association's Diversity Career Forum, a job fair for minority students and Sacramento area employers.
Mr. Sueyoshi received his J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law and his B.A. in Economics and Legal Studies from the University of California at Berkeley.
